Power Dynamos Waits as FAZ Weighs Heavy Sanctions Over Violence Claims

Defending champions brace for possible fines and lengthy bans after explosive clash with Red Arrows FC triggers disciplinary storm

Zambian Super League log leaders and defending champions Power Dynamos could face a range of disciplinary sanctions for their players or officials if found guilty of breaching the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Disciplinary Code following incidents involving their supporters during a league match against Red Arrows.

Last week, Bolanews reported that the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) had filed a complaint against Power to the Football Association of Zambia Disciplinary Committee, accusing the club of inciting the violence that characterized their league match against Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium last month.

The club has been cited for alleged violations relating to misconduct against match officials, spectator violence, and actions deemed to have brought the game into disrepute.

The club has been cited for having abrogated articles 49, 67.2, and 53 of the disciplinary code.

Power Dynamos were given 72 hours to respond, and Bolanews understands that the club has responded, and FAZ is studying the matter.

Should the matter be escalated to the disciplinary committee, and Power fails to prove their case, they face financial penalties, which are often the first line of punishment in cases involving crowd trouble.

Officials or players who will be identified as having played a part in inciting the fans could also face bans.

“A player or official who publicly incites others to hatred or violence will be sanctioned with a match suspension for no less than twelve months and with a minimum fine of ZMW 5,000,” Article 53 (2) of the code reads in part.
