Nkana lost their seventh league match as Power Dynamos won 2–0 in a Kopala derby held at Woodland Stadium in Lusaka, securing bragging rights.
Both teams were in search of two straight wins after recording victories in their previous mid-week fixtures.
The capital city, Lusaka, witnessed the first-ever Kitwe derby at a filled-to-capacity Woodland Stadium between two giants of Zambian football.
While Power Dynamos sought a victory to put them back in the running to defend the league title after a dismal run of results leading up to the derby, a victory for Nkana would have moved them out of the relegation zone.
It was the home team, Nkana, who had the first real opportunity to threaten at goal in the 15th minute, but Harrison Chisala’s shot went over the bar.
The 13-time league champions were in control of the ball, and Patrick Gondwe had a chance to make it 1-0 but he missed the tap-in after a close pass from Moussa Lemisa in the area.
Dynamos’ Andy Boyeli scored the game’s opening goal to give Aba Yellow the lead in the 49th minute.
60 seconds later, one became two for Power, who extended their lead through Godfrey Ngwenya after heading home a delightful ball courtesy of a Joshua Mutale free kick.
In the 91st minute, Eric Yema thought he had given Kalampa some relief, but a dubious call by the match officials saw his goal disallowed.
