FC MUZA demolished Green Buffaloes 5–1 away at Edwin Imboela stadium on Saturday, a result that lifts them to third place and within just three points of league leaders Red Arrows and second-placed Zanaco.
The Mazabuka side was ruthless in the final third, with striker Biston Banda netting twice as MUZA delivered one of their most clinical performances of the season.
Head coach Nowell Phiri hailed the display, describing the match as “very important against a big team like Buffaloes,” adding that the team had specifically worked on their attacking execution.
“We have been working hard mostly in the final third, in front of goal. Today (Saturday) things worked out,” Phiri said.
“Biston Banda has been struggling to score but I think he has found his form.”
Phiri cautioned his players against complacency ahead of their next fixture away to struggling Kansanshi Dynamos.
“We shouldn’t underrate any team. This is the elite league. What is important is to prepare adequately.”
Despite the emphatic win, the MUZA coach urged his squad to remain grounded, emphasising that the season is far from over.
“We shouldn’t relent. What is important is to forge ahead because the league is still young.”
Pressed on whether the result strengthens their push for ABSA Cup qualification, Phiri remained optimistic.
“I think we are heading there because we still have five more games to play.”
Kalampa continues to struggle.
Nkana’s struggles continued as they were held to a 1–1 draw by Mines United. Mathews Banda gave Nkana an early lead, but Cephas Handavu equalised to deny the Kitwe giants a vital win.
Nchanga Rangers climbed to 5th on 20 points after goals from Christopher Itaka and Elliot Kampukesa inspired a 2–0 victory over FC Leopards, while Mufulira Wanderers moved to 7th with 18 points following a 2–0 win against Konkola Blades.
On Sunday, Week 12 action continues as log leaders Red Arrows host second placed Zanaco FC at Nkoloma Stadium with both teams sitting on 24 points. In Choma, 8th-placed Green Eagles welcome relegation threatened Mutondo Stars.
