Numba Mumamba reveals plan ahead of must-win clash with Green Eagles

To increase their chances of avoiding relegation from the MTN Super League, Zanaco desperately has to win.

Zanaco head coach Numba Mumamba says his team is fully focused ahead of Wednesday’s must-win home clash against Green Eagles at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

Both teams are struggling for form, with Zanaco sitting just outside the relegation zone on goal difference with 33 points, while Green Eagles are slightly ahead on 37. Zanaco head into the match after a 2-2 draw away to Nkana last week, while Eagles are coming from a 1-1 draw at home against Forest Rangers before advancing 4-2 on penalties in the ABSA Cup on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the match, Mumamba emphasized the importance of the encounter:

“We have prepared accordingly. From the time we returned from Kitwe after playing Nkana, we immediately got back to work to prepare the team. The team is ready and set for tomorrow’s [today] game against Green Eagles,” Mumamba said.

“We expect a tough match. Green Eagles are a seasoned side, but we have done all we can to ensure the team gets the results we need.”

Mumamba admitted Zanaco’s recent form has been disappointing, dropping crucial points that could have secured their survival earlier:

“We have dropped five points in the last two games. We wanted to confirm our survival, but unfortunately, we couldn’t win. That’s why we are taking this game seriously — it’s a must-win for us.”

The coach pointed out that poor finishing has been their biggest downfall this season:

“Our greatest challenge has been our finishing. This is where we have lost games and dropped points. If we had been more clinical in front of goal, we would be talking about something different. We have been working on this week in, week out to try and improve.”

Kick-off is set for 15:00 CAT at Sunset Stadium.
