Nkwazi Football Club will face newly promoted Konkola Blades in the first match of the 2023-24 Zambian Super League at the Edwin Imboela Stadium, as both teams look to get off to a good start.
After struggling last season and narrowly avoiding relegation at the end, the Zambia Police-sponsored side will be looking to compete and finish in a good position in the coming season, according to their assistant coach, Dennis Makinka.
“Playing in the league, there is no small team; we have prepared for our opponents, and we plan to get maximum points. The preparations we have done are top-notch; from the beginning, we were ready. We are just hoping all the players will perform well.
Makinka has stated that they will not repeat last season’s poor run towards the end of their campaign.
“Last season we didn’t start well; we lost about four to five games, but this time around we will make sure we collect maximum points in our first games.”
“We have improved the squad, we have acquired some players we have replaced, and we are good to go this season. This season we are stronger than last season said Makinka.
The coach also disclosed that the team has set ABSA Cup qualification this season.
“For us, our short-term target is to play in the ABSA Cup tournament that’s in the first half of the season then for the second half of the season we want to finish in the top six,” noted the coach.
