The Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ) has raised concern that many promising football talents are being lost due to indiscipline, with players failing to realise their full potential.

On Thursday, union representatives dated Nkana players at Nkana Stadium for an interactive meeting.

Sharing his own story, FAWUZ player relations officer Kelvin Mushipe, who is also a former Lusaka Dynamos midfielder, revealed most players fail to reach their peak because of discipline.

“I wanted to play at the highest level of football, but there was some hindrances in there, I cannot lie to you, I had the talent football at the highest level, but what hindered me was I was very indiscipline for a young man,” Mushipe said.

He urged players not to fall into the trap of indiscipline.

“If you don’t have discipline, you cannot play anywhere. You need to be committed to your trade as a footballer. Being a footballer is a blessing. How many players want to be like you? They cannot play because of lack of discipline,” he said.

He challenged footballers to lead responsible lives.

“I have seen good footballers who can play anywhere but have failed to play, but footballers who are not that good are reaching the peak because of discipline,” Mushipe said.

And Nkana chief executive officer Mwansa Kapyanga urged players to take their careers professionally.

“We want the best for the players,” Mwansa said. “We appreciate the knowledge shared and we will continue reaching out for more interactions.”
