Napsa Stars climbed to 12th position on the log while Mines United remain rooted at the bottom. A second-half strike from Rally Bwalya was enough to hand Napsa Stars their first three points of the new campaign.
Head coach Sipho Mumbi was understandably delighted at the end of the 90 minutes and will be hoping this victory provides the momentum his side needs this season.
The Pensioners dominated much of the proceedings but struggled to break down a resilient Mines United defence.
Speaking after the match, Napsa Stars’ first assistant coach Lawrence Mulenga gave an honest assessment of the game.
“It’s a game that we just had to win, we were looking forward to playing this game and it was a must win game, yes with all due respect to our opponents, I think we had to plan well and execute our mission very well, it’s a job well done to the players they knew the importance of getting maximum points at home.”
Napsa Stars strikers challenged
Mulenga emphasized the importance of consistency, noting that points in the first round are crucial to pushing up the log.
He added that their next fixture against Green Buffaloes will be tougher, but the message to the players remains consistency and hard work.
The assistant coach also underscored the need for their attackers to make the most of their opportunities in front of goal, urging the strikers to step up.
“The joy of every striker is to put the ball in the back of the net, they are missing out on that and need to up their game.”
Despite concerns about the lack of goals, Mulenga assured that the technical bench is working tirelessly to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
