In a Lusaka derby contested at Woodlands Stadium, Napsa Stars earned their first victory of the year by defeating league leaders Zanaco football club 3-0.
The 2022 ABSA Cup Champions Napsa Stars would have remained in the bottom four with a loss, while the Bankers would have opened a three-point lead at the top of the table with a victory.
Following a pinpoint pass from Adams Zikuru, Chaniza Zulu scored within 60 seconds from Kickoff for the pensioners—who have since moved up to position fifteen on the log.
In the 29th minute, Zacahria Chilongoshi came close to tying the score for the visitors, but Rodwell Mukwanya made a strong save.
The Pensioners coordinated their defense to keep the score in their favour going into halftime.
Adam Zikuru’s goal made it 2-0 and gave the home team breathing room 60 seconds after the restart, continuing how the first half ended for the home team.
Boster Siyoma then made it three in the 85th minute to put the game beyond reach for Zanaco and seal Napsa Stars’ first victory of the season.
Reacting to the win, Napsa Stars Head Coach Perry Mutapa hailed his team for the victory.
“It was coming [the win] We were never under pressure. The draw last week in Kabwe [against Kabwe Warriors] gave us a lot of confidence.
“Today, the responsibility for the guys was to score. We could have won by more than three goals. The first half could have been the time to win the game, Mutapa said.

“We were not okay going into halftime down one, but we did well to score the two goals and maintain control,” he continued.
