The current goal for Green Eagles, according to head coach Alex Namazaba, is to finish second in the first half of the Zambian Super League.
Eagles’ excellent play has continued as they defeated Red Arrows 2-1 in a well-earned match that took place at Nkoloma Stadium in week 16.
In form striker Freddy Michael put Eagles ahead in the lead in the 25th minute, before Alassane Diarra levelled matters for the Airmen in the 51st minute. However, Gift Mwansa put back Eagles in the lead in the 73rd minute to help the Choma based side record back-to-back victories.
Reacting to the result, Namazaba said he is eyeing second position and believes the team is ready for the challenge.
“We want to finish the first round on second position because we have still got a chance, I think the last game we want to win that one and see how it will end.
“It’s a sweet victory because you know this was a military derby and I know our boss is happy for winning this game, we are now remaining with Nkwazi this one takes us up we will plan very well for Nkwazi am happy for the boys they have done very well,”
Despite the Eagles’ poor start to the game, the team’s tremendous battling spirit was complimented by their coach.
Eagles are 5th on the log with 26 points.
“I think we played a close game we didn’t attack too much, but in the first half we were a bit sluggish in front we were losing the ball cheaply where we could simplify it, but we were a bit selfish, but in the second half I think we did a lot of defending we closed the game the chance came and we scored,”
With 26 points from 16 games played—7 wins, 5 draws, and 4 losses—Eagles are now in fifth place.
