Mutondo Stars end Forest Rangers unbeaten run to move second behind Zesco United

Zesco United defeated Indeni FC by a slim margin of 1-0 in a Ndola derby at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, extending their lead on the Zambia Premier League table.

In an early kickoff at the same venue, Mutondo Stars defeated Forest Rangers 2-1, ending Rangers’ season-long unbeaten streak.

After Week 8 games, Kabwe Warriors, who registered a 1-1 tie with Green Buffaloes at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium yesterday, are still the league’s only undefeated team.

Mutondo Stars, on the other hand, have won four in a row and are now in second place on the table, 15 points behind Zesco (19).

Titus Chansa scored a brace in the 13′ 58′ and Ian Sindaye in the 33rd minute pulled a goal for the visitors. Chansa, has now scored seven goals for the Evergreen, one short of the goals, he scored last season.

The nine-times Zambian champions returned to winning ways after suffering a 2-0 away defeat at defending league champions, Red Arrows before the international break.

The derby looked set to be end scoreless before Nigerian, Dennis Nya clinched his first league goal and the winner in the 93rd minute of additional time.

Elsswhere in Lusaka, the Bad Boys, at Nkoloma stadium, Atletico Lusaka secured a one nil victory over visiting side, Green Eagles. Samson Malaya hit the target 3 minutes before the half-time mark.
