Green Eagles will host Mines United in a MTN/FAZ Zambian Premier League Week 17 fixture at Choma Independence Stadium on Saturday.

In their last home fixture, Eagles beat Red Arrows and will be seeking to extend their winning momentum.

Their coach, Perry Mutapa is targeting a win at to revive the team’s chances of securing a slot in the 2026 ABSA Cup tournament.

The Choma-based side, sitting on 22 points, will fight for a win, which will push them to 25 points and might keep them alive on the road to the ABSA Cup.

On the other hand, Eagle’s qualification to the ABSA Cup is dependent on the outcome of the Kabwe Warriors and FC MUZA match, who both have 24 and 23 points, respectively.

“We Need To Qualify” – Mutapa.

Speaking to the club’s media ahead of the match, Mutapa made known his team’s target.

“The road for ABSA is not an easy one; we need to win to qualify for ABSA, and that was our short-term target, and this game is the perfect home match to qualify to go to the ABSA. I think we just need maximum points, and then we will qualify,” he said.

“Of course we have to be hopeful. We have to believe as a coach, as a team, and as everybody involved with Tonka Twende. We have to believe that we are going to play ABSA, and we have to do it on Saturday. Of course in football it’s three results, but they are coming to our home ground, and we want our short-term target to be to play ABSA, so we want to collect the maximum points on Saturday,” noted Mutapa.

Meanwhile, Green Eagles were eliminated last year from the 2025 ABSA Cup tournament by Red Arrows.
