The victory over the reigning champions Power Dynamos, according to Zanaco’s head coach Numba Mumamba, will inspire the squad to increase its prospects of qualifying for the 2026 ABSA Cup.
In a rescheduled Week 13 league fixture, sensational Zanaco registered 1-0 over defending champions Power Dynamos on Saturday.
After suffering a 1-0 defeat at Mines United last weekend, Zanaco redeemed themselves against Aba Yellow.
Lambert Araina’s lone goal in the 82nd minute gave the home side a victory.
The victory pushed Zanaco to second place with 27 points, four points behind league leaders Red Arrows.
Speaking to journalists after the match, Mumamba praised the team for sticking to the game plan.
“A very good win beating the defending champions. This was a very tough game. I think Power Dynamos came out strongly in the first 20 minutes, where they dominated play, but it was good that we managed to contain them because that is how they win games. Otherwise the team did very well in terms of our tactical plan,” he said.

The bankers have won eight, drawn three, and lost three matches.
“For us this win is a great motivation because that has been our cry since the season kicked off. We wanted to play in the ABSA Cup, and so far so good, we are heading towards that. All we need is to just continue working hard so that we can finish in the top brackets by the halfway mark, then we would have achieved our objectives for the first round,” noted Numba.
