Nchanga Rangers and NAPSA Stars played to a one-all draw at Nchanga Stadium on Sunday in a Week Seven Super League match.
Boyd Mulwanda, the assistant coach for Rangers, was disappointed in the home team’s ability to convert scoring opportunities.
The Brave Rangers now have 13 points, two fewer than league leaders Zanaco FC, while the NAPSA Stars are still in 13th place with seven points.
In his post-match analysis, Mulwanda commended his team’s effort but bemoaned their lack of poise in front of the goal.
“I think the boys put up a good fight. We controlled the game and even managed to score early,” he said. “But in the final third, we just lacked concentration. We could have scored two or three more.”
Despite missing out on the chance to go to the top of the standings, Mulwanda insisted the technical bench remains positive about the team’s progress.
“We are disappointed, but that’s football—some games you win, others you draw or lose. The important thing is how we respond. The boys worked hard, and we just have to keep encouraging them to push on,” he added.
When asked if the Nchanga Rangers are prepared to contend for the championship, the assistant coach responded that the team’s main goal is still to continuously improve.
“The league is still open; anyone can win it. We just have to keep fighting and improving, especially when finishing our chances,” he said.
Mulwanda also commended striker Christopher Itaka, who has scored five goals in six games, though he believes the forward can do even better.
“He’s doing fine, but we demand more from him. He could have been on seven or eight goals by now. He just has to keep working hard,” Mulwanda concluded.
