Power Dynamos coach Oswald Mutapa says back-from-injury goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga will have to fight for a position back into the starting 11 following impressive performances by Willard Mwanza.
Mulenga was injured on national duty when Zambia played to a scoreless draw in the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) qualifier against Chad at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on October 11.
Since then, he has missed two matches for Power, with Mwanza manning the sticks in the 1 – 0 win over MUZA and the 2 – 1 home victory over Kabwe Warriors.
Mutapa boasted that he has three quality keepers and Mulenga, who has resumed training will have to work his way back into the team.
“We have three quality goalkeepers, he [Mulenga] is back in training. He trained the whole of last week and I think he is ready to come in now.
“The chance came on itself, he was injured, and someone [Mwanza] came to take his position. He has to fight to take the position; it is not like..,” Mutapa said.
He said the club recognizes that Mulenga is a national team player and they will do whatever is possible to ensure that he is in shape for international engagements.
“Yes, we know he is a national team goalkeeper and we want Power Dynamos to produce him for the national team. Where there is a chance that there will be a national engagement, we would love him [Mulenga] to have game time so that he performs well for the national team,” Mutapa said.
