The Mufulira Wanderers Football Club Supporters have called on the club’s management to fire head coach Charles Kafula following the club’s dismal start to the 2024/25 Super League season.
The Shinde Stadium-domiciled side currently sits in 14th place with 5 points after five matches with one win, two draws, and two losses.
Last weekend, Abena Milambo recorded a 2-0 home defeat to Mutondo Stars to derail their previous almost-perfect performance against Lumwana Radiants in an away fixture.
In line with the performances, the club’s Supporter Society acting national vice chairperson, Kawanga Katebe, has written to demand the immediate dismissal of the head coach and his assistant coach, Harrison Tembo, in a bid to revive the team’s chances of winning silverware.
Katebe feels that the duo has failed to find the winning formula despite having served on the club’s technical bench for a long time.
“It is worrying to observe that despite being with the team for a long time and having been confirmed to the position of Head Coach and Assistant, the duo has failed to gel the team together and consequently failed to deliver anticipated results,” Katebe said in a letter dated 24th September 2024 seen by BolaNews.
“This situation calls for immediate action, and it is even more disheartening to observe that there are no signs of improvement in our style of play, to give us any manner of hope that things will improve for the better as the season progresses.”
We are being demoralized – Mufulira supporters
The club’s supporters society claims that the performance of the team is demoralizing them and also the sponsors.
“The energy, resources, and sacrifices that the supporters continue to put into ensuring that the team delivers good results are not being repaid on the pitch. Other key stakeholders and sponsors have been let down by the results on the pitch.”
Katebe has disclosed that the fans will continue peacefully demonstrating using banners, media statements, and any other means for management at the club to show Kafula and his assistant the exit door.
He adds that the supporters are demanding the appointment of an experienced coach who will come with his own assistant to change the fortunes and avoid the road to the National Division One League.
“To this regard, the supporters will from here on continue and not relent and see to it that this demand is met, without fear or favor… before the team is relegated to National League Football,” he said.
