In a Week 20 Zambian Premier league fixture, Kansanshi Dynamos will battle it out against Mutondo Stars at Solwezi’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.
Mabanga Boys head into this home encounter following a 2-1 away defeat to Konkola Blades last weekend.
The Solwezi-based outfit, currently on 21 points, will take on a rejuvenated Mutondo Stars side that sits 16th on the log with 17 points and is coming off a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over FC MUZA.
Dynamos assistant coach Dennis Makinka acknowledged the challenge ahead, noting that Mutondo Stars are a youthful and energetic team capable of quick transitions from defence to attack.
“They are a youth side full of running and very physical, and very quick in transitioning from defence to attack,” Makinka said. “But we have been preparing after watching clips of their last game.”
Kansanshi, however, will head into the fixture weakened by several injury concerns.
Rodgers Lukonde is out with a hamstring injury, Mathews Mutombo contracted malaria.
Willy Bokingo and Patrick Macheso are both sidelined with knee sprains. Kelvin Kapumbu remains a doubt due to a hamstring concern.
Despite the setbacks, Makinka insists the squad remains motivated and ready to respond.
“Training has been in high spirits. Yes, we have about four injuries, but we have a big squad and replacements to fill in the gaps,” he said.
He added that the injuries present an opportunity for younger players to step up, especially as Kansanshi look to improve their finishing after creating several chances in recent matches without converting them.
