The hard-fought victory pushed the Pensioners six points clear of the relegation zone, confirming their survival with one game to spare.

Mathews Tolopa scored the all-important goal in the 14th minute, giving Napsa a lead they managed to defend until the final whistle.

The result not only ensured Napsa’s safety but also confirmed Lumwana Radiants’ relegation, joining Indeni FC in the drop to the lower tier.

With head coach Sipho Mumbi currently away in Egypt with the U20 national team, assistant coach Lawrence M. Lubinda has been in charge of the team.

Speaking after the match, Lubinda underlined the importance of the win

“Today’s game was a must-win game. We knew if we didn’t win, we would be in deep trouble. We also knew it wouldn’t be an easy game, but we prepared well for this encounter both mentally and physically,” he said.

Lubinda acknowledged the intensity of the match, adding that Lumwana also came into the clash desperate for points.

“We look forward to the next game. Otherwise, it was a highly charged game because Lumwana also wanted it most.”

With relegation no longer a concern, the focus now shifts to ending the season on a positive note. Napsa will be aiming to win back-to-back league matches for the first time this season when they host their final fixture.

“For the first time, we need to win two games in a row because this whole season we haven’t done that. We will push our boys so that we get maximum points at home and impress our supporters,” Lubinda added.
