Lameck Banda has resigned as FC MUZA coach with immediate effect, Bolanews has been informed.

In August 2022, Banda took over FC MUZA, leading them to a second-place finish in the 2022-23 Zambian Super League and their first-ever CAF Confederation qualification.

The 37-year-old, who was the club’s first assistant coach, took over the Mazambuka-based club from Masauso Tembo.

He guided MUZA to the historic ABSA Cup Final, where they lost 2-0 to Forest Rangers.

However, the 2022-23 season Coach of the Year nominee handed in his resignation letter on Sunday following a contractual disagreement.

Why has Banda resigned?

Bolanews has learned that Banda, who was supposed to sign a new contract with the club this week, did not agree with some of the terms of his new contract.

“He did not agree with the terms and conditions in his new contract. So he informed the club that he would be leaving,” said a source close to the coach in an interview with Bolanews.

Other sources have also alleged that Banda requested a pay increase in his contract. However, the two parties were unable to reach an agreement.

FC MUZA have since begun looking for a replacement as they prepare for the 2023-24 season.

Before Banda resigned, there was talk of FC MUZA looking for a new coach to lead them in the CAF Confederation Cup due to their coach’s ineligibility to be on the bench in that competition.

CAF raised its standards for a coach to be admitted to a club’s bench in 2020. All coaches are supposed to ensure that they have a “CAF A” coaching license.

Meanwhile, Bolanews has also been told that Banda is set to undergo CAF A license training in Tanzania.
