Former Zambian striker Nchimunya Mweetwa has urged Power Dynamos to secure the futures of their key players, including top scorer Moses Shumah, as they target a return to the CAF Champions League next season.
The defending champions are on course to retain their title after moving 10 points clear of their closest rivals, Red Arrows, who have 54 points, while Power Dynamos sit on 64.
In an interview with BolaNews, Mweetwa noted a recurring trend among Zambian clubs of losing their best players after a successful season.
He stressed that for continuity and consistency, Power Dynamos need to retain most of their foreign and local players who have been instrumental in both CAF and domestic competitions.
“Whenever a team plays well, there will always be suitors that will come for their players,” he said. “In the case of striker Moses Shumah, he is a hotcake, and most teams on the continent will be lining up for his signature.”
Mweetwa added that there should be a clear plan regarding how the club intends to utilise Shumah, especially as they aim for an improved performance in the CAF Champions League next season after reaching the group stages for the first time this campaign.
“Also clubs like Power Dynamos need to clearly state their milestones, what they want to achieve in the next three seasons and how each player fits in the plans of the coach and the philosophy,” he stated.
The winner of the MTN Super League qualifies for the CAF Champions League.
