Konkola Blades captain Kelly Kayembe has attributed the team’s recent resurgence in the MTN Super League to discipline, unity and a collective desire to succeed.
The Chililabombwe-based outfit has found momentum at a crucial stage of the season, collecting two wins and three draws in their last five matches.
Notable home victories over Nchanga Rangers and Kansanshi Dynamos have lifted the Blades to ninth position on the table with 26 points from 19 matches.
Speaking in an interview, Kayembe said the team’s improved performances are a result of hard work.
“The driving force behind the team’s positive results has been unity, discipline and a shared hunger to win. We trust each other on the pitch and stay focused on the bigger picture, good results,” he said.
Reflecting on season thus far, the experienced defender described the first-round encounter against Zesco United as their most difficult match of the campaign so far.
“The toughest match in the first round was against Zesco United. It felt like the game of the season because we had many new players and were still learning to understand each other, which made it even more challenging,” Kayembe said.
He also reflected on the fiercely contested KCM derby against Nchanga Rangers, which ended in favour of the Blades at home.
“From my experience, these matches are always tough because of the rivalry and the expectations from the fans, but they also bring out the best in us,” he said.
Konkola Blades will next face relegation-threatened FC Leopards on Sunday as they aim to extend their unbeaten run and continue climbing the league standings.
