Kachinga Eyes Winning Start as Kabwe Warriors Host Lumwana Radiants

Kachinga claims the team's morale was low before meeting the players, but it has now improved after training with them ahead of his first match in charge.

Newly appointed Kabwe Warriors head coach Albert Kachinga is determined to kick off his tenure with a victory when his side takes on Lumwana Radiants at home on Wednesday. A win would not only boost confidence but also end Warriors’ four-game winless run, which has seen them collect just a single point.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game. There are no easy games in the Super League, but my thoughts are that we just have to go flat out and collect three points,” Kachinga said in a pre-match interview.

Once considered strong title contenders this season, Warriors have seen their championship hopes slip away in recent weeks. This poor run led to the appointment of Kachinga, who replaced Numba Mumamba who left the club at the start of the second round of the 2024/25 MTN Super League.

“The morale is quite high now. It was low, but after meeting the boys and training with them for a few days, that was our main focal point—to lift the spirit of the team. I believe we have done just that,” he added.

Kachinga looking to get Warriors scoring again

Warriors’ biggest concern has been their lack of goals. Despite creating numerous chances, they have found the back of the net only once in their last four matches. However, Kachinga is optimistic, revealing that his players have been sharp in front of goal during training.

“We gave everyone an opportunity in training, and looking at how they performed, chances were created and they were finishing well. We just need to encourage them to have belief in front of goal. I believe you will see a change tomorrow,” he assured.

Sitting fourth on the log, Warriors face a Lumwana side battling relegation. However, Kachinga insists his team will not take their opponents lightly.

“In the Super League, there are no easy games, so I rate them very, very high. I haven’t seen them play much this season, maybe just once or twice on TV, but we are not going to take them lightly. We will face them bare-knuckled,” he declared.

At one point, Warriors led the league table, but they now find themselves nine points behind leaders Power Dynamos, who lead the table with 54 points with only five games to play. Despite the uphill battle, Kachinga remains hopeful, believing that two straight wins could reignite their title dreams.

“Anything is possible. We just need to put our heads together and believe. If we plan well and do well in the next two league games, I think we will start dreaming again,” he said.
