Green Buffaloes Football Club defender Lucky Bwalya says the competition in the 2024/25 Super League has been fierce, but the Zambia Army team is still in contention for the title.

Buffaloes are currently eighth in the league standings with 26 points, six points behind leaders leaders, ZESCO United after the first of the season. They have had six victories, eight draws, and four losses.

In an interview with BolaNews, Bwalya, 29, said the Buffaloes are determined to compete fiercely in the second round.

“The competition is still high this season. I just need to work extra hard, believing in God and believing that yes, it’s coming home to the barracks,” he said.

Bwalya, who has three free-kick goals out of four this season, credits his ability to score set pieces to the hard work he puts in during practice.

“I do practice how to take free kicks during most of my free time,” he revealed. “Most of my motivations come from my family because they really want me to do better in my football career.”

Despite his valiant efforts, Bwalya was left out of Wedson Nyirenda’s  30-man provisional squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which was announced last week.

Bwalya, who has previously played for Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers, says he plans to keep working hard when the season returns.

“To everyone who is believing in me, thank you so much for believing in me, and I will do my level best to put a smile on the faces,” he stated.
