Zesco United Football Club defender Benedict Chepeshi has revealed his frustrations after the team’s failure to secure the 2024-25 MTN Super League title.
Power Dynamos emerged as champions, having garnered 69 points, five points clear of Zesco United.
As runners-up, Zesco United have secured their spot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Speaking at the team’s award gala, Chepeshi stated that it was disappointing not to win the league title, noting that his team started the season on a good note.
“It was very disappointing because we were chasing it. We were having it; we have been in first position from the beginning of the league; we were first, second or third. So, I think us losing at that moment was disappointing, but we knew we had another objective to follow. We had the Absa and the second position; you can’t just give up at that moment because you’ll lose everything,” Chepeshi said.
Chepeshi said despite the setback in the league, the team did well in the ABSA Cup and qualified for the continental showpiece.
“I think we have achieved what we wanted; not getting the league but second position is okay. We are playing CAF [Confederation Cup], and the important thing is we got the Absa Cup,” Chepeshi said.
“So, I think we have done well. The objective for the team was to qualify for the Absa, win the Absa and win the league. I think we have done one, which is important.”
