With four games already played in the Zambian Super League, Zanaco’s start to the season has not been impressive having lost two consecutive games at home and winning two games away, putting Kelvin Kaindu’s job on the chopping board with social media bloggers already speculating that he could be leaving Sunset Stadium soon, while several reports in Nigerian are indicating that former Super Eagles Assistant Coach Emmanuel Amunike could as well be his replacement.
The bankers have played four games out of which they have won and lost two times with the latest result being a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Forest Rangers Football Club to sit in 9th position with 6
points on the log standings.
Zanaco have also only scored a total of 4 goals in four games and it seems they have found a replacement for their last season’s top scorer Moses Phiri who joined Tanzanian outfits, Simba SC at the start of this season.
Kaindu took over Zanaco last season after signing a one-year deal following the departure of Chris Kaunda.
He was hired to help the Bankers perform better in the MTN Super League and continental football of the 2021/21 campaign. It was the third time Kaindu returned to the club where he was a captain in his playing time and served as assistant coach to Wedson Nyirenda and Numba Mumamba.
During pre-season, Zanaco participated in a four-team tournament with Zesco United, Red arrows, and Green Eagles where the Bankers failed to beat any of the participating teams or score a goal in the three matches they played in the tournament but only conceded five goals
Zanaco are usually title contenders in the Super League but after struggling last season and during the pre-season there is a lot of doubt amongst fans and critics who are questioning if Kaindu will stay at Sunset Stadium as rumors of a new coach arriving at the club continue to increase.
However, Kaindu believes things are not as bad as they look and only need to work on a few improvements.
I think there are a lot of things we need to work on and the way we concede, they are silly goals. We have created a lot of chances but our conversion rate is not good,
I think it shows us where we need to work on in all the games that we have played despite losing we are not as bad as it may look. I think they are only a few areas that we need to work on. The first area is taking chances and shooting at goal, we are having chances but not shooting at goal and we also concede from very small errors
He said after losing his second home match at Sunset Stadium last weekend.
Zanaco have won the league 7 times and it remains to be seen if the Bankers will be adding the 8th title to their trophy cabinet anytime soon.
