Malawi’s 2024 Player of the Season, Chimwemwe Idana, departed Malawi this morning to join his new club, Zambian Super League side Zanaco FC.
The move comes after a lengthy wait, as the Zambian side initially approached Idana last year, but the deal did not materialize at the time.
Speaking to BolaNews earlier today, Idana expressed his excitement about joining Zanaco, and he hopes to make a strong impression in the Zambian league.
“I am happy for this; it has been a long wait for it to finally come true. I cannot say what I was doing in Malawi will be the same in Zambia. Mine is a prayer that God should be with me — it is possible once God is involved,” he said.
A statement from Silver Strikers confirmed the departure of the 26-year-old midfielder. The club’s CEO, Patrick Chimimba, told BolaNews that the transfer amount remains “undisclosed”.
“Midfielder maestro Chimwemwe Idana has left the club after spending a good three years with us. The extraordinary midfielder last played for Silver Strikers in our 3-1 win against Karonga United on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, where he christened his farewell match with a man-of-the-match performance and a goal. The jersey number 44 came to Area 47, he conquered, and left an indelible mark in the hearts of many,” the statement read.
