Zesco United Technical Director Honour Janza has revealed the club’s decision behind the resigning of Kenyan striker Jesse Were.

The club’s all-time leading goal scorer, who was previously with Kansanshi Dynamos, has rejoined Zega Mambo on a temporary contract with an option to extend at the conclusion of the current campaign.

The league leaders are currently having a mid-season retreat camp in Ndola before the League resumes.

On Were’s signing, Janza states that the January transfer window is too short to actively engage with possible transfer targets.

According to Janza, the majority of transfer targets are also involved in negotiations with their clubs, which could cause a delay in the player’s adjustment.

“It is difficult to bring in new players because the majority of active players are involved with their clubs,” Janza explained.

At Zesco, Jesse Were won three league titles.

Despite their desire to add two or three players to the squad during the January transfer window, the club is pleased with Were’s addition, according to the former Chipolopolo boys’ trainer.

“It is also a bonus if you bring in one or two players like we have done with Jesse,” he stated. Janza added, “We tried to bring in more. On our list, we wanted to bring one or two players to add on to the acquisition of Jesse Were.”
