The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that the Solwezi Independence Stadium, which has been undergoing rehabilitation work through the FIFA Forward program, will be handed over before the end of this week.
The association embarked on a program under the sponsorship of FIFA worth $1.5 million (K25,462,516.08) to rehabilitate four stadiums in Chipata, Solwezi, Kasama, and Mansa at the cost of $300, 000 each.
The David Kaunda Stadium was the first project to be completed and handed over to the community in September 2023.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga announced the completion of the rehabilitation of the Independence Stadium in Solwezi during an end-of-year media interaction on Wednesday night in Lusaka’s Woodlands township.
He also revealed that the two other stadiums would be finished by the middle of next year.
“I wish to take advantage of this opportunity to announce that the Independence Stadium in Solwezi has also been completed and ready for use. The facility will be handed over to the community before the end of this week.
“I am very confident that kaole and Kasama Stadiums will also be ready within the first quarter of 2024,”
The completion of Solwezi Independence Stadium will see the return of Super League side Kansanshi Dynamos to playing their home matches in Solwezi.
