After his maiden AfCON tournament, Willard Mwanza has now shifted focus to the Zambian Premier League with league defending champions, Power Dynamos as he seeks to replicate his fine form.
Mwanza feels his outing with the Chipolopolo boys eliminated at group stage has motivated him to do better in the domestic league with Aba Yellow.
With a penalty save against Mali in the Group A opener, Mwanza won the hearts of many Zambian soccer fans with his impressive form on his debut appearance.
He was one of the outstanding goalkeepers at the ongoing 2025 AfCON tournament in the tournament group stages.
According to the TotalEnergies CAF AfCON stats of match day 3, Mwanza made six spectacular saves against Morocco despite a 3-0 defeat.
The Chipolopolo boys’ goalie also displayed a superb performance in his first two matches, as he saved a penalty against Mali in their group opener of the tournament.
Speaking in an interview, Mwanza acknowledged that he had a better outing.
“I learnt a lot of things; the more things I have learnt, the more I will improve my performance, and even when we go back to the AfCON, we will do better than we have done in this AfCON tournament,” he said.
The former Konkola Blades shotstopper also encouraged his fellow goalkeepers to embrace hard work.
“My message to other goalkeepers is to encourage them to continue pushing so that one day they can also play at the AfCON tournament. You just have to believe in yourself and have confidence that anything is possible,” he added.
Power Dynamos will face Mutondo Stars on Saturday, 10th January, 2026.
