Former Zambia U20 Men’s National Team midfielder Boyd Musonda is set to be unveiled by Konkola Blades after finalizing talks with the Chililabombwe-based club, BolaNews has learnt.
A source close to the player confirmed the move, stating: “His contract with Zanaco expired and both parties agreed to separate and not renew it because the player wanted to explore other options after being with the team for many years. He has already concluded talks with Konkola Blades and will soon be unveiled.”
Musonda recently parted ways with Zanaco following the expiration of his contract, ending a decade-long stay at the club. He was promoted to the senior team in 2015 and went on to win the Zambian Super League in 2016 and the Barclays Cup (now ABSA Cup) in 2017.
The defensive midfielder also had a brief six-month spell in North Africa with Tunisian side CS Sfaxien but was released early from his contract.
On the international stage, Musonda was part of the Zambia U20 squad coached by current Konkola Blades coach Beston Chambeshi that won the 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, marking a high point in his youth career.
He was also part of the Zambia senior national team squad in September 2021, featuring in both FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers, where Zambia beat Mauritania 2-1 and lost 2-0 to Tunisia at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Musonda will join Konkola Blades as a free agent and is expected to reunite with Chambeshi, who played a huge role in his early days in his career.
