On Wednesday, Zanaco FC suffered a 1-2 home defeat to visiting Green Eagles in a mid-week fixture at Sunset Stadium.
The defeat saw sensational Zanaco drop to seventh place with 42 points. The Bankers have now lost three consecutive matches against Mufulira Wanderers, Chirundu, and Green Eagles.
Speaking to the club’s media, Zanaco FC assistant coach Dabid Chilufya feels the goalkeeping department is letting down the team.
Chilufya feels the lapses in the goalkeeping and defense departments are a worry to the team, as the team has allowed six goals in their previous matches across all competitions.
“The first goal that he scored, it was just a mistake of the goalkeeper. If he had handled that ball well, we would have gotten this game. But he messed up and everything went wrong,” he said.
After suffering an embarrassing elimination from the ABSA Cup competition, Zanaco will now seek to fight and finish in a decent position.
“I believe the goalkeeping department is also letting us down. That’s one of the challenges because in the Chirundu game they scored a near-post goal, which was not supposed to be like that,”
“So, I believe the goalkeeping area is killing us“
“If we had just put everything like we talked about in the briefing, we would have gotten this game,” he said. “So officiating is not the reason that we lost this game,” noted the coach.
