Green Buffaloes head coach Aggrey Chiyangi has challenged his players to step up their performances if they are to stand a chance of earning national team call-ups in the near future.
On Sunday afternoon, the Lusaka-based side defeated Zesco United 2-1 in a Week 10 MTN Super League fixture played at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
The victory lifted the Buffaloes to seventh place on the log with 15 points from 10 matches.
Buffaloes have endured a slow start to the 2025–26 campaign, managing four wins, three draws, and three losses so far. However, the former Chipolopolo boss believes his players must raise their game in the upcoming fixtures.
“I give credit to the players; I think they pushed very hard. We told them, ‘If you want to be a player who can challenge to play for the national team, these are games that you should show yourselves in.’ If you can play against such teams, then you can play at the national team,” Chiyangi said in an interview.
The coach also urged his side not to underestimate lower-ranked teams as they prepare for their next challenge.
“It’s another tough game; we are going to play Mutondo Stars at Arthur Davies Stadium. It’s not an easy game again; in fact, these are games I don’t like—playing teams that are lower on the log. Playing against big teams is not so difficult; players motivate themselves. We have to keep talking to them so that they don’t underrate them,” noted Chiyangi.
Green Buffaloes will face Mutondo Stars in their next Super League outing.
