Chiboni Eyes Chipolopolo Return Ahead of Jam-Packed International Calendar

The right-back says he's putting in the work to earn a national team recall as Zambia prepares for CHAN, AFCON, and World Cup qualifiers.

Power Dynamos defender Kondwani Chiboni is determined to work hard and catch the attention of national team selectors ahead of a packed schedule for Chipolopolo.

Between August and December, Zambia’s senior national team is expected to play at least ten matches across three competitions. That number could increase depending on factors such as international friendlies and the team’s progression at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Zambia will feature at CHAN—co-hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda—as well as in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and AFCON, which will be held in Morocco.

Chiboni, who last played for Chipolopolo in 2023, is aiming for a national team comeback and is working hard to become a regular in the squad.

Regarded as one of Zambia’s most promising right-backs, Chiboni spoke to BolaNews about the effort he’s putting in to secure a return to national duty.

“It’s all about hard work,” he said. “Football isn’t played in secret—it’s open for everyone to see. Stats don’t lie, so I believe if I keep pushing, I can earn my place in the national team.”

Chiboni made his international debut on October 7, 2020, in a friendly against Malawi. He played the full 90 minutes as Zambia secured a 1–0 win over the Flames.

He went on to earn five caps and was part of the squad at CHAN 2021, although he didn’t feature in any matches.

His last appearance came on June 12, 2023, in a friendly against Kuwait, where Zambia lost 3–0.
