Red Arrows FC striker James Chamanga has revealed that the club is targeting finishing the season strong to build momentum for next season’s CAF Champions League competition.
The Airmen secured the league title with a 1-0 victory over ZANACO Football Club at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium.
Chisi Mbewe’s side has 67 points, eleven more than second-placed ZESCO United.
Chamanga told BolaNews that, despite the team winning the league with two games to spare, it is important to end on a high note because the remaining games will serve as preparation for the upcoming season.
“You have seen how we have played this season; we went 18 matches unbeaten,” Chamanga said. “We will pick up where we left off. Even in the last two matches, we want to finish strong so that we set a standard for what we want to start from in the Champions League.”
‘We will do better in the Champions league’- Chamanga
Chamanga believes that the three-time Super League champions have the quality and experience to compete.
“I’m very confident that we have the capacity, and the manpower is more than enough to do well in the Champions League; maybe we just need one or two reinforcements. We have experience from the previous campaign when we lost to Simba, but this time we will be more prepared,” he stated.
The veteran striker has revealed that his contract will end at the end of the 2024–25 season and hopes to win more titles with the Airmen.
“The 2024–25 season is my last season, and that’s when my contract ends with Red Arrows,” he said.
Chamanga is also elated with the way the young strikers have stepped up throughout the season to score the much-needed goals.
The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner has won two Super League titles since joining Red Arrows.
Chamanga has also added the Absa Cup medal to his illustrious stay at Nkoloma Stadium.
