After going three games without a win in the Zambian Super League, Zanaco FC finally won on Saturday afternoon at Sunset Stadium.
Prior to Saturday’s victory, the Bankers had lost 3-0 to Napsa Stars and drawn 0-0 and 1-1 with the Prison Leopards and Nkwanzi, respectively.
Pressure was rising on the seasoned trainer, Wedson Nyirenda, who was in desperate need of a win.
After what appeared to be a close affair, Nyirenda discharged his final weapon in the 32nd minute, bringing Brian Mwila on for Francis Mustafa.
Three minutes later, Mwila headed home the game’s first goal from a Mousa Souleyamnou cross to put Zanaco up at halftime.
Souleyamnou set up Mwila again 17 minutes into the second half to complete his brace, and the Zambian international netted his third goal of the game in injury time.
Mwila’s hat-trick was the first of the season in the Zambian League. He helped Zanaco move into the top five in the league standings with 12 points.
The Bankers will travel to Kitwe for their next league match against Power Dynamos next weekend.
