The MTN Super League returned with a bang following the festive season break with Nkana beating Mutondo stars to top the table while Red Arrows stunned Power Dynamos to extend their unbeaten run against the Kitwe side.
Nkana FC 2-0 Mutondo Stars
Congolese striker Idriss Mbombo scored an impressive brace to fire Kalampa to the top of the table after beating Mutondo stars 2-0 in Kitwe. Mbombo netted in both halves to propell Nkana to the top of the MTN Super League table with 33 points level with second placed Kabwe Warriors and Red Arrows but with a better +14 goal difference.
Red Arrows 3-2 Power Dynamos
Red Arrows triumphed over Power Dynamos in a thrilling five-goal encounter at Nkoloma Stadium. Ciel Ebengo was the hero for the hosts, scoring the decisive goal in a back-and-forth match that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Power Dynamos, searching for their first league win against Arrows at Nkoloma in nearly five years, were unable to overcome the attacking force of the hosts who took a first half leaf through Angel Lubamba before Derick Bulaya stroke their second goal in 68th minute four minutes after John Soko had equalized. Power Dynamos got their second goal from Owen Tembo in the 87th minute to level the matters again but Red Arrows’ resilience and Ebengo’s match-winning strike sealed a valuable win for the Airmen.
Mufulira Wanderers 4-1 FC MUZA
There will be a night long party in the town of Mufulira on the Copperbelt after Mufulira Wanderers put on an impressive performance as they thrashed FC MUZA 4-1. The emphatic win meant Wanderers are now unbeaten in their last five games and they are out of the relegation zone, as they sit 9th in the standings with 27 points above MUZA who are 10th with 25 points. Wanderers scored through Clive Biyeta, Joseph Mumbai, Owen Mwamba and Evans Chisenga while MUZA got their consolation goal through Andrew Phiri.
Nchanga Rangers 0-1 Kabwe Warriors
In a tightly contested match, Kabwe Warriors who earlier this week lost their coach Numba Mumamba to Zanaco and top scorer Godfrey Binga to Napsa Stars secured a narrow 1-0 away win over George Lwandamina’s Nchanga Rangers to solidify their place in the top four on the table. The only goal of the game came in the second half, with Warriors’ forward converting a well-executed chance after a defensive lapse from the hosts. Kabwe’s interim coach, Happy Sichikolo, oversaw the Railwaymen’s first win under his guidance, taking them up to second place on the table. Despite Nchanga Rangers’ efforts, they could not break down the Warriors defense, leaving them with no points from this fixture.
Forest Rangers 2-0 Zanaco FC
In a crucial relegation battle, Forest Rangers earned a vital 2-0 victory over Zanaco FC, moving above them in the standings. The hosts took control early in the game, but could only break the deadlock in the 40th minute through Quadri Kola and later Benson Kolala sealed their victory in the 81st minute. This defeat leaves Zanaco in a precarious position in the league, as both teams remain in the relegation zone with 19 and 17 points, respectively.
Napsa Stars 0-0 Atletico Lusaka FC
In a tense and largely uneventful match, Napsa Stars and Atletico Lusaka FC played out a goalless draw at Woodlands stadium in Lusaka. The game was marred by a late flurry of discipline issues, with Atletico Lusaka receiving two red cards in the final stages of the match, including a sending-off for team captain Abel Kanyamuna. Despite their numerical advantage, Napsa Stars were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, and the match ended in a stalemate, leaving both teams frustrated.
Indeni FC 0-0 Green Buffalos
Indeni FC, currently languishing at the bottom of the table, managed to secure a valuable point at home against Green Buffalos, holding the visitors to a 0-0 draw. Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances in what was a cagey encounter. Indeni, however, will feel the result is a positive one as they fight to stay out of the relegation zone. Green Buffalos, on the other hand, failed to break down the resilient Indeni defense, leaving them with just one point from the game.
