“A very painful one” – reacts Mumbi after NAPSA Stars lose 3-2 to FC MUZA

NAPSA Stars looked in full control in the first half, racing to a 2–0 lead through a Godfrey Binga brace, before FC MUZA staged a dramatic comeback.

In an MTN Super League five-goal thriller on Saturday at Nakambala Stadium in Mazabuka, NAPSA Stars head coach Sipho Mumbi was left frustrated after his team gave up a two-goal halftime lead to lose 3–2 to FC MUZA.

The Pensioners looked in full control in the first half, racing to a 2–0 lead through a Godfrey Binga brace, and appeared to be cruising towards all three points.

But the match took a dramatic turn after the break, as the hosts staged a remarkable comeback to snatch victory.

“A very disappointing result, a very painful one; even a draw would have been painful. But again, we need to be all responsible,” Mumbi told the media after the game.

Mumbi revealed his halftime message to the players was clear: avoid giving Muza any lifeline in the second period.

“We controlled the game in the first half; we scored two goals. I mentioned that we shouldn’t allow them to even score one goal. We concede one goal, they come into the game, and that’s what happened.”

His fears came true just after the hour mark when Chanda Chileshe converted from the penalty spot to spark the home side’s comeback.

“We need to introspect” – Mumbi.

With momentum swinging in Muza’s favor, Francis Mukuka struck in the 83rd minute to level the score before Gift Simanansa completed the turnaround two minutes later, sealing a dramatic win for the Mazabuka side.

The defeat leaves Napsa Stars still searching for consistency as they continue to struggle to maintain their defensive shape late in games.

Clearly hurt by the loss, Mumbi has called for accountability from everyone within the club, both players and the coaches.

“We need to introspect and check each other on what our contribution is, not only the players but everybody.”
