According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo and his longtime agent Jorge Mendes have parted ways over their disagreements with Piers Morgan’s interview and his move to Al Nassr.
The reports in Portugal further suggest Ronaldo and his agent fell out over the controversial Piers Morgan interview where he said, that he doesn’t respect Manchester United FC manager Erik ten Hag because the coach doesn’t respect him, that United are “stuck in time” and that they wanted to make him a “black sheep” and push him out of the club.
He also alleged that the directors at United did not believe him when he justified his absence from pre-season with a health problem of one of his daughters.
The 37-year-old Portuguese superstar signed a £175 million-per-year contract on Tuesday, and he was formally unveiled as an Al Nassr player on Wednesday.
His agreement with Al Nassr was reportedly negotiated by his friend Ricky Regufe, who also serves as his manager.
Portuguese news outlet Publico also reports that Jorge Mendes objected to Ronaldo giving the interview and realized afterward that there was little chance left to land the superstar at another elite club in Europe.
Despite the contentious manner of his exit from Old Trafford, Publico claims that Ronaldo anticipated receiving numerous offers from top European clubs if he did well at the World Cup in Qatar.
Ronaldo’s relationship with Mendes, which spanned two decades, had been deteriorating for some time, and his personal manager Ricky Regufe arranged for him to join Al Nassr.
Since Ronaldo left Sporting Lisbon to join Manchester United in 2003, the 56-year-old super agent has been his representative. The two are now expected to formally part ways since their relationship is alleged to have worsened.
