ZISD FC is considering Zimbabwean coach Lazarus Magaya as their new head coach following the departure of Enala Simbeye last week, BolaNews has learned.
The team had a strong start to the Eden University Women’s Super League and looked like genuine title contenders. However, a mid-season slump has left them fighting to avoid relegation. ZISD currently sits 11th on the table with 23 points from 19 games, making survival their primary goal for the remainder of the campaign.
Magaya, a seasoned coach, has a proven track record across several African countries, including Zimbabwe, Botswana, Eswatini, South Africa, and Malawi. Known for his ability to rescue teams in trouble, he has successfully kept clubs like Shooting Stars FC, Maningi FC, Tonota FC, Mbabane Citizens FC, and Emmanuel FC from relegation.
His top-flight coaching credentials include stints with Malanti Chiefs FC in Eswatini, Kalonga FC in Malawi, Masters Security FC in Malawi, and Gaborone United in Botswana. Most recently, Magaya led Herentals Queens FC in Zimbabwe. Under his guidance, Herentals defeated Zambian champions Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club 1-0 during last year’s CAF COSAFA qualifiers in Malawi.
With negotiations reportedly progressing, Magaya might even attend ZISD’s crucial weekend clash against YASA Queens. Should the deal go through, he will be tasked with guiding ZISD away from the relegation zone and stabilizing the team for the future.
Meanwhile Enala is expected to be part of Nora Hauptle’s technical bench as one of the assistant coaches.
