ZESCO Ndola Girls Football Club is just nine points away from securing the 2024/25 Eden University Women’s Super League championship.
The Ndola-based team delivered a dominant 6-0 victory over Police Doves Queens in a Week 27 match at the Trade Fair Grounds. Penelope Mulubwa netted a hat trick, while Charity Mubanga scored once, and own goals from Sarah Chihango and Rommy Ng’uni added to the tally.
With the win, ZESCO Ndola Girls extended their lead at the top of the table to 72 points, 13 points ahead of second-placed Green Buffaloes, with only seven matches remaining in the season.
In a post-match interview, head coach William Zulu says the team is focused on finishing strong. He said that once they wrap up the season with three wins, he will use the remaining matches to prepare the team for the upcoming COSAFA-CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
“The girls were ready for the game; now we are hoping for another game because we are remaining with three games, then we’ll be confirmed as champions,” he stated.
Zulu stated that winning the league would be the biggest achievement in his coaching career.
“It’s a huge achievement in my life and the team because it will be the first time winning the Premier League since its inception. So, for us, it’s a plus, and it’s a very good motivation. And we will start preparing ourselves for COSAFA,” Zulu said.
The gaffer has declared that his team will be aiming to compete for a qualification spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League when they play the COSAFA regional qualifiers.
“We’ll be going to COSAFA not to participate but to compete. So, our aim is to go very far [in the COSAFA-CAF Women’s League Qualifiers]. My secret is preparation. That’s my secret. Always hard-working, preparation, plus commitment,” Zulu stated.
