ZESCO Ndola Girls Football Club head coach William Zulu says the team’s goal this season is to try and dethrone the reigning Women’s Super League champions, the Green Buffaloes.
The Ndola side has started the season on a high note, winning their first two matches.
Zulu’s ladies defeated The Elite Ladies 4-0 in week one before winning 2-0 over YASA Queens on Sunday at Ndola’s Trade Fair Grounds.
With the win, the 2023-24 Women’s Super League runners-up now lead the standings with six points, level with town rivals Indeni Roses Football Club.
Zulu was elated with the team’s performance in their second match, as it has shown continuity from last season.
Zulu on this season’s targets
The gaffer revealed that the plan in their previous match against YASA was to quickly score a goal to unsettle the visitors.
“We started where we left off (last season). Our aim is to go up and see what we can do, but we have to fight to get what we want; we have to fight no easy game,” Zulu said.
“It was tough; they lost concentration; we brought in Avell [Chitundu]; her experience led to the second goal. We have to fight this time; we will not sleep.”
After losing out on the title last season to a dominant Green Buffaloes, Zulu is cognisant of the fact that his team needs to remain consistent to go beyond what they did last season.
“We just have to work hard to achieve what we want to get; our aim is to work hard and win the games until the last whistle. It’s too early to say, just two games; we can’t say much,” he concluded.
ZESCO Girls Ndola’s next match will be on Sunday against fifteenth-placed ZANACO Ladies FC at Sunset Stadium.
