Zesco Ndola Girls closed the gap at the top of the ZPL Women Super League to just one point following a composed 2–0 victory over Konkola Blades Queens, while league leaders Green Buffaloes Women suffered their second defeat of the season after losing 2–1 to Indeni Roses in Ndola.
The defending champions capitalized fully on Green Buffaloes’ slip, with Thandiwe Ndlovu scoring a brace in the 45th and 70th minutes to secure all three points on Zega Day. The win keeps Zesco firmly in the title race, and with a game in hand, the Ndola-based side could yet take control of the summit.
Speaking after the match, Zesco head coach William Zulu admitted his side made the contest more difficult than it needed to be, especially in the first half.
“It was tough, though not really. In the first half we underrated them and missed a lot of chances. Our decision-making was poor and there were many mistakes,” Zulu said. “After talking to the players at halftime, we improved. Honestly, we should have scored more.”
With the league entering a challenging phase, Zulu warned that the pressure would only intensify.
“This is where the league really starts. Return games are difficult. Teams we used to beat will come hard at us. We just have to keep working.”
After Week 19, Green Buffaloes Women remain top of the standings on 47 points, with Zesco Ndola Girls close behind on 46 points and a game in hand as they look to maintain their momentum.
