Nine-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions Nigeria topped Group B despite being held to a goalless draw by Algeria.
The Super Falcons will now face the Copper Queens, who finished second in Group A after a 2-2 draw with hosts Morocco, a 3-2 victory over Senegal, and a 1-0 win against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Nigeria, on the other hand, began their campaign with a 3-0 win over Tunisia, followed by a 1-0 victory against Botswana, before drawing 0-0 with Algeria, who finished second in the group.
The last WAFCON meeting between Zambia and Nigeria was in the 2022 edition, where the Copper Queens triumphed 1-0 in the bronze medal playoff without Africa’s best player Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji.
Meanwhile, Botswana—who lost their first two matches 1-0 to both Algeria and Nigeria—came from behind to defeat Tunisia 2-1, finishing third in Group B. They now await the outcome of Group C matches to see if they can qualify as one of the two best third-placed teams.
The Mares will be hoping that Tanzania, currently third in Group C, draw with Ghana. A win for either side would eliminate Botswana from the competition.
Defending champions South Africa, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Tanzania in their last match, will also be in action tonight against second-placed Mali, with both teams vying for the top spot.
