Former Zambia Women’s National Team captain Audrey Sifunganyambe has urged the Copper Queens to avoid high balls when they face Senegal, pointing out the West Africans’ height advantage.

Sifunganyambe, who represented Zambia from 1999 to 2006, was part of the team that finished third at the 2002 COSAFA Women’s Championship.

Speaking on ZNBC’s Radio 4 programme, she stressed the importance of tactical discipline and maintaining composure during the game.

“I hope we can learn from the mistakes the team made. I watched the Senegal and DR Congo game and the girls are tall and our girls are short.

“We have to keep the ball on the ground because Senegal are tall. Now that they won their previous game, they will come in high on morale, so I hope the technical bench will do their homework before the match,” she said.

“This time around we just enjoy the game, not panic. Let’s focus more on our opponents, let’s just screw up our nuts, then we will be good,” concluded Sifunganyambe.

Zambia will face Senegal in their second Group A match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Copper Queens are still in search of their first victory of the tournament, having played out a 2-2 draw against hosts Morocco in their opening fixture.

Senegal, who defeated DR Congo in their first game, currently lead Group A and will be aiming to maintain their winning momentum.

A win for Zambia would see them climb to the top of the group with four points, leaving them needing only a draw in their final match against DR Congo to book a place in the quarterfinals.
