The South African Football Association (SAFA) announced that they submitted a bid to host the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Today, CAF will hold its Executive Committee meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, and CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe will chair it.
Part of the agenda includes a decision on the host of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
“SAFA have submitted a bid to host the event that would afford WAFCON champions Banyana Banyana an opportunity to defend their crown on home soil,” a statement from SAFA read.
The WAFCON, which was supposed to take place this year in July, has been rescheduled for next year to avoid conflict with the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The competition will begin on July 5th, 2025 and conclude on Saturday, July 26th, 2025. It was originally scheduled to be hosted by Morocco, but CAF is apparently thinking about changing the host as the North African country prepares to host the men’s Africa Cup, which will begin in December next year.
