Despite a 6-0 victory over Angola in the first leg of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Copper Queens Head Coach Bruce Mwape believes there is still much room for improvement.
A Barbra Banda hat-trick and a goal each from Lushomo Mweemba, Ireen Lungu, and Racheal Kundananji gave the Copper Queens an edge over Angola.
Mwape, who said before the game that it would be embarrassing to start the first leg on a low note after returning from the World Cup, said the team could have scored more goals.
“We still need to improve on positioning,” he said. “We missed a lot of opportunities and we could have easily scored in the first 10 to 15 minutes but it took us until 40 minutes.”
With the tie almost over, the Copper Queens trainer hints at making changes in the second leg.
“I am sure our fans will be expecting us to score more than six goals [in the second leg] but that is not our plan because we need to look at some areas we need to improve,” he said.
“In the second leg, we will try to make some changes and bring some of the players we dropped.”
