Copper Queens striker Racheal Kundananji scored a first-half brace for Madrid CFF, who defeated Champions Barcelona 2-1 on Sunday in the final match of the season.

Madrid’s win ended Barcelona’s 719 days unbeaten run. They last lost a match in June 2021.

It was also Kundananji’s fifth brace of the season in the Spanish Women’s League.

She has ended the season with 25 goals and 3 assists in 30 games. This sets her career-high scoring record since moving to Spain.

Kundananji is also the only Zambian female footballer in history to have scored 25 goals in Europe’s top five leagues.

She concluded the season as the second-highest scorer, ahead of Nigeria’s reigning African player of the year, Asisat Oshaola, who scored 21 goals, and below topscorer Alba Redondo, who had 26 goals before playing her final match of the season.

Madrid CFF, finished fifth on the table with 56 points. This is an improvement over the previous season’s 13th-place finish with 27 points.

Meanwhile, Kundananji suffered a minor thigh injury in the 83rd minute and was replaced by her countrymate Grace Chanda, who has three goals and two assists in 25 games this season.

The two will now join the Copper Queens camp next month in preparation for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
