Assistant coach Ngosa Mulenga of Zesco Ndola Girls Football Club is still optimistic that the team will overtake the reigning champion Green Buffaloes to win the Zambian Women’s Super League.
With 80 points between the two teams, the Ndola-based team has continued to put pressure on the defending champions, who are topping the table due to goal difference.
However, Green Buffaloes have a game in hand compared to Zesco Ndola Girls, who have played 31 games so far.
Mulenga reacted to her team’s 3-0 triumph over Red Arrows at the Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola by saying that they will continue to concentrate on the next three games.
Mulenga commended the team for a masterful performance but warned them not to get too comfortable, stressing that the race for the championship is still ongoing.
“The girls are pushing; they are really fighting. I think they are doing a good job,” Mulenga said. “We will remain focused until the last game. Our aim is to win the league, so we will continue pushing and pushing till the last game.”
She adds, “I would encourage the girls to continue pushing till the end; otherwise, the competition and chase for the title are still on.”
Zesco’s next game is against Trident Queens in Kalumbila on Wednesday this week, and Mulenga is optimistic about the outcome.
In a Week 31 fixture encounter, Trident defeated Police Doves FC 1-0, moving the Solwezi-based team up to ninth place on the log with 40 points.
