Chipolopolo striker Kingstone Mutandwa has penned a contract extension with Serie A side Cagliari, with the new deal tying him to the club until 2028.
The contract extension will be seen as a leap of faith by the Italian club given that the player has yet to hit the full measure of his potential since joining the club.
The youngster trekked to Italy last year when he joined Cagliari from Atletico Lusaka, initially attached to the youth team before being promoted that same year.
In the youth team, the 21-year-old played 18 matches, scoring five goals. That was enough to earn him a place in the main team.
However, in the main team, he has only managed seven appearances in all competitions since being promoted and only scored one goal.
The club is however satisfied with his progress and has seen it fit to hand the Chipolopolo international an extended deal
“Cagliari Calcio is pleased to announce the contract extension of footballer Kingstone Mutandwa, who has signed a new agreement with the club until June 30, 2028,” the club posted on its social media pages.
Mutandwa will be hoping to get more game time to prove his worth at the club that is sitting bottom of the log in Serie A with two points from a possible 15.
