Green Buffaloes Women’s football club successfully defended their Women’s Super League title, a record tenth consecutive title, as Zesco Ndola Girls Football Club failed to meet their season target.
Green Buffaloes were undefeated all season, collecting 90 points to retain the championship, while Ndola Girls finished with 87 points.
Despite missing out, first assistant coach Ngosa Mulenga said the players fought hard, adding that the technical bench was proud of their performance this season.
Mulenga said there is great improvement in the league as she anticipates more competition to Green Buffaloes from Zesco Ndola Girls and other teams, next season.
“The girls did what they could; we fought so hard, but I think football is about time and chance. It wasn’t just our time and chance; we were hoping to do better this coming season,” she said.” We promise to improve next season and give them [fans] better results.
“The girls did a good job from the first game to the last game, and we are happy. We managed to do what we could; it is unfortunate we did not carry the title.”
And ZESCO Ndola Girls captain Melody Kipimpi was elated to finish the season on a strong note in the absence of a title.

“We are happy to end the season with a win, but we didn’t want to finish in second place.” The league was competitive; next season we will work on the mistakes we made so that we can win the league,” she stated.
