Zambia’s U-17 women’s national team captain Taonga Mubanga says the team needs to prepare adequately as they aim to go beyond the round of 16 of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup set for Morocco.
The Copper Princesses drew 1-1 against Ethiopia on Sunday, booking a ticket for the global showpiece via a 3-2 aggregate.
In the first leg of the final round, Zambia beat Ethiopia 2-1 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Speaking after the match, Mubanga admitted that it was a tough match.
“The match was tough, though we managed to score first, and then we allowed them to score a consolation. It shows that we played a good team,” she said.
Mubanga says in the last editions of the World Cup, the team was learning and now needs to adequately prepare.

She says the team has set the semifinals as the target for the tournament.
“We are happy to qualify, and we want to be fully prepared more than we did in the last two editions,” Mubanga said.
“In the first edition we were learning, and in the second one we managed to even win some games and reached the round of 16. We now want to reach the semifinals or even the final and win it; that’s our dream.”
Zambia has qualified for the youth FIFA women’s global showpiece for a third consecutive time.
